There’s more to your well-being than just training and focusing on healthy foods. Taking a complete idea of your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is crucial for your overall health. We like to term this as self-care. Here are a number of our favorite practices for self-care.
We may be practicing social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t able to connect with others! Organize a digital coffee date or happy hour with your friends. Keep the conversation positive and tell each other something good that happened to you in the last few days. Make plans for when you can meet again and how wonderful it will be to give them a big, warm hug. Together we are better prepared to handle this and can support each other. That’s what friends are supposed to do!
Follow a Flexible Routine
Craft a plan for your time but let there be some flexibility. For example, set an alarm for around the same time in the morning and get ready for bed around the same time every evening. Draft your goals for the day and plan out your work assignments, but make some time for your daily workout, a walk outdoors, or to dig into your favorite book. Don’t be too rigorous with your schedule that you pile on avoidable stress. Finding a balance between procedure and recreation will help you have a more constructive and gratifying day.
Appreciation is good for anyone. The more gratitude we display to others during these times, the more cheerful and more resilient we become. Give others grace. One of our most treasured ways to carry out gratitude is to reach out to a loved one and let them know how much you cherish them. A personal note is also an exciting and enjoyable surprise that is guaranteed to make anyone’s day.
There is nothing better than spending time outdoors, basking in the fresh air. Take a break and walk with your pet or family every day after lunch. Say hello to your neighbors (from a good distance) and find out how they’re feeling. Stand in the sunshine for 10 minutes and try taking slow breaths—you will feel so much better!
Just because we can’t go out for a meal at our local favorites doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate our food! Create a new dish for dinner and make your meals count. Queue up your favorite song, get the whole family in on the process, and have some fun with it!
